Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea)
After that excellent outing, I am really looking forward to this weekend's trip down to San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge. Especially after reading BirdingBev's San Bernard NWR report from her recent visit to the Houston area!

Love the picture of the little blue. I have a hard time telling the little blue apart from the great blue and this photo really helps me to see the difference between the two of them.
Beautiful photo! I envy your good birding weather :)
Great shots, Kyle!
I'm getting nostalgic...my wife and I saw this species for the first time last year when we visited the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
Great photos. Herons are such beautiful birds.
I really love the feel of that first picture. I'd frame it.
Thanks, all! While it has been awfully dry this winter, I still can't argue with Wisconsin's sentiment -- the Houston area has WONDERFUL birding weather for this time of year!
Thats not a little blue, that's a lotsa blue ;) A nice dark blue compared to the Great Blue. Much smaller than I realized too.
Great pics Kyle!
Very nice photos! The first one is my favorite.
We get LBH here in the summer. They feed with Egrets and Ibis'.
Super captures Kyle! That second shot is my favorite. Such great detail and the blue and purple, wow!
I am eagerly awaiting your posts and pictures of San Bernard. If they are as good as this Heron, they will be terrific.
